Conversations

Everything Sebi does these days is accompanied by a running commentary. Either he'll be pointing out what he's doing, or he'll dole out instructions, or he'll make up stories. Even as we watch his vocabulary and understanding literally explode, and try to keep up - he still manages to catch us completely off-guard sometimes.

I walked out of the bathroom in the morning to have Sebi ask very pointedly,"You go poo poo?"

At dinnertime, Sebi asks,"Are you Molly?"
"No." I reply,"I'm not Molly. I'm Mami."
A naughty smile dawns.
"Are you Kelsey?"
"No, I'm not Kelsey. I'm Mami."
"Are you Liz?"
"No, I'm not Liz. I'm Mami."
This game carries on for about five minutes until he runs out of names.
There is a slight pause...
Then, looking at his plate,"Are you pasta?"

After his teachers commented one day on how he repeats everything they say, Sebi comes home to inform me,"Mami, I'm a parrot."

"Sebi, where's Mamu?"
"Mamu's in New York."
"Where's Didu?"
"Didu go Iowa."
"Where's Abuela?"
"Abuela's Miami."
"Where's Tio Dany?"
"Tio Dany also Miami."
"Where's Papi?"
"Papi's right here."
"Where's Sebi?"
"Sebi's right here."
"Where's Ariana?"
"Ayana sleeping."
"Where is she sleeping?"
"Ayana sleeping Mami's tummy."

He has figured out that letters correspond to sounds in words. (He loves the Sesame Street song "C is for Cookie".) He was explaining the letters to Alex tonight before bed, showing him the letters and saying,"E for Papi" (emphasizing the last syllable.) "E for Mami."
