Sebi decided to show us that he was staying in his crib by choice rather than necessity. Something he demonstrated very effectively by climbing out of the crib and taking a flying leap into Alex's arms. But then he seems perfectly happy to go back into the crib and go to sleep.
Ah well. We knew this day was coming - we were just hoping to postpone it as long as possible.
We've converted his crib into a toddler bed, since we'd rather be the ones to "choose" when the transition happens (read: we don't want him to decide he's tired of the crib when we have a newborn in the house.) He seems to love it. He talks about his big boy bed, and loves climbing into it and making a little nest for himself reading books at bedtime. There have been no nighttime visits to our room, and no nocturnal wandering. It has actually been a pretty easy transition, and for that we're grateful.
But it just goes to remind us - we're not as much in control as we think... An important life lesson, actually. Thanks, Sebi.
