The big First Birthday coming up
DS turns one tomorrow. We have parties this weekend, hordes of family coming into town, decorations and balloons to do, cupcakes to bake, etc.But I have been having the most wonderful time the last couple of days remembering and re-living his birth. I've been thinking back - "A year ago at this time I was in the ante-natal unit and they had just confirmed that DS was on his way." or "At this time, the contractions were really starting to get bad and DH was massaging my back." That kind of thing. And all the while I was going through my labor, I could not have imagined how it would feel when he finally arrived and I held him for the first time. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. And now I think about how far we've come since then. How clueless we were in those first days, and how quickly we all learned - DS, DH and I - and how much we've all grown.Anyway, I just wanted to share that special feeling - and the realization that I've never felt nearly as wonderful on my own birthday as I am feeling on his...

Happy soon to be birthday!It took me a few years not to be totally reliving the birth and early days. I used to think about all I was doing on the day of his birth, at what time. I did it a bit less with ds2 but still a good bit. I love that. :) It's a day totally special and unique to you and your family.Beth

Thank you for all the lovely wishes.The birthday weekend was actually wonderful - all the little babies had a great time playing together, which was so great (those things can be unpredictable) and the big people had fun, too!Regarding re-living the birth experience, funnily enough, at right about the time I was reaching the transition phase last year, I had a huge spontaneous emotional moment of my own this year. It's funny how even my unconscious seemed to remember and recreate the same emotional peak.Anyway, thank you again for all the love and support. It made an already special milestone that much more so.
